The Way Home

As A Young Cowboy Sitting By The Fire
Wondering Where The  Next Trail Goes

Suddenly Appeared An Old Man Drawing Near
To The Fire From The Bitter Cold

Don’t See A Horse Where Is His Coat?
I Thought But Just Didn't Say

Don't  See A Gun Surely He Knows
There's Danger Out Here Every Day.

Looking At Me In His Eyes I Could See
No Wiser Man Had I Ever Seen

Knew The Road I Was On So Far From Home
Seen The Miles That Brought Me To My Knees.

Started To Weep As He Began To Speak
A Gentle Voice I Had Never Known

Cowboy Don't You Know You've Gone This Way Too Long
Change Your  Life Before You Travel On.

Then He Spoke To The Fire It Answered Flaming Higher
I Saw My Life Among The Burning Coals

Looked On With Fear I Saw The Coming Years
In The End I’d Lost My Mortal Soul

But Then He Spoke To Me And Said This Need Not Be
I’ll Give You Life You Have Never Known

I’ll Show You The Way Where Ransomed Cowboys Stay
Follow Me And I Will Lead You Home.

Now An Older Cowboy I Sit By The Fire
No Longer Do I Ride All Alone

And I Know The Road I’m On This Trail Will Take Me Home
I Changed My Life Before I Traveled On.

Won't You Change Your Life Before You Travel On.
